Video lessons must fully and equally replace face-to-face lessons during lockdown - no teaching by email

Digitization where it makes sense - with the best broadband equipment and excellent infrastructure. We don't need a digital package with tablet equipment for every student, but practical solutions that work.

  • Past experience has shown that video lessons in spring 2020 generally did not work at all; the quality of teaching was poor according to many parents

  • Email tasks and email communication do not replace video instructions (or discussions) and certainly not regular lessons

  • Due to the numerous advantages, students usually prefer face-to-face classes and personal communication with teachers they are familiar with

  • Parents are always happy to provide support at home with "home schooling" - however, due to time constraints, parents cannot be responsible for imparting (instruction, control) all of the learning content - the usual and proven division of labor is required: content imparting and instruction by the school; Practice and repetition at home...

  • In our understanding, the teaching staff should not be left free to decide whether or how curriculum content is taught during a lockdown (e.g. via email without personal communication or not at all) - the school management must have unambiguous work instructions for the implementation of video instructions during give a lockdown

Invalidation of the most common counter-arguments,

  1. Legal questionability cannot be a reason for not carrying out video instructions; Schools can obtain declarations of consent from the parents - just like e.g. E.g. for image rights or other permissions
  2. The technical problem cannot and must no longer be a counter-argument; a license is negligible in terms of costs and various platforms are available, including BigBlueButton, Zoom, Team, Skype and many more
  3. The "difficulty" of instruction and discussion in the medium of "video lessons" cannot and must not be exploited as an avoidance tactic - clear rules and agreements for the implementation of video formats help against this.
